Long vs. Short Shaft

I inherited a long shaft BF75 (7.5 hp), will I be asking for trouble using it on my 12 ft. alumacraft, which has a 15 inch transom?

No trouble at all.-------------There will be a greater chance that you hit bottom because the motor sticks down 5" more that is needed.--If you want to go fast there will be more spray visible and more drag , so the boat won,t go as fast as a short shaft.--------If all you want to do is putt, putt around and catch fish , then there is no problem.-------You could of course add 5 " to the transom of the boat and solve that problem.

One thing that could (and I emphasize could) give you a problem is that the exhaust back pressure will be a bit higher due to the exhaust being submerged too deep. I know that these engines are used like this all the time but if you do have starting and idling problems, and can't find anything else wrong, it is something to keep in mind.
Otherwise, have fun.
