Throttle valve sensor assembly

I have a suzuki DT 85, The carb has been clean but the RPM comes up on top end. Some times able to get it to work by playing with the Throttlevalve sensor on the side of the middle carb. Would this cause the problem I am having?

I was out tuna fishing over the weekend- rode fine for entire day then after 45 mile ride in my 300hp (4 yrs old) cut off when throttled back in the inlet- the engine stopped cold and flashed a J-3 problem-I'm told this is a throttle sensor- ever heard of this- very dangerous situation
 
Mine will run and take the throttle full The RPM'S are between 700-800. I dont have a light flasing. Sorry but i;m not sure.
