advantages to flush kit vs earmuffs

Was kinda curious, and since i'll be running in salt water i'll be flushing every time, but since I dont have a slip yet, aside from accessabiltiy, is there any other advantage to running the hose on the flush kit to the back of the engine instead of using the earmuffs?

Zero advantage to the flush kit---with the flush kit YOU CANNOT RUN THE ENGINE while flushing or you run the risk of burning out the impeller. Flush kit cleans salt out of the engine but not the lower unit---Ear Muffs allow you to run the engine, which flushes out the lower unit and the engine itself (and thermostat per kimcrwb1's comment)

Caution though with the muffs! Some outboards have intake ports up under the cavitation plate that the muffs don't cover up and feed water to. So, they tend to suck air and cause the impeller to overheat. You have to tape them closed to prevent this from happening. Just sayin'
