New guy needs some help, having some inboard motor issues with my 1989 mercruiser 5.7l ski motor
Hi, I just bought my first boat and I am having some issues. I have a 1989 Dixie 299 with a Mercruiser 5.7l ski inboard. My transmission cooling assembly was leaking raw water into the bilge so I took it off, patched it and reinstalled. When I went to take it out the patch held but the cooler assembly is now very warm to the touch. When it leaked water it was generally cool to the touch. Is this normal? Also, after warming up I pulled a skier around for about 10 minutes, the motor ran fine until I powered off and came around to get my skier. It bogged down and stalled, that is when I noticed the transmission cooler assembly was warm. But I believe the stall wAs due to a flooded carb. The engine compartment smelled like gas and I could see some over flow on the manifold. If any of this makes sense to you please pass on some info. ARE THEY CONNECTED? Or is it just bad luck?
