removing power head on 1974 25hp. johnson outboard motor

trying to save on labor costs for my old johnson outboard ,25R74M. Need to replace the drive shaft. The power head needs to be removed. Would just like a little guidance in doing this.:eek::):eek:
 
For one thing the powerhead does not need to come off to replace the driveshaft.------------Give more details of what is wrong and what you are trying to do.

the spline snapped off at the crank. Was told that it"s held in place by an o-ring. Need to romove it to replace the drive shaft.
