Motorguide Foot Control Disassembly?

I have a Motorguide Silencer 725 - The foot control pedal is cracked badly & I need to disassemble so I can reinforce it from the bottom.

motorguide.jpg is like mine

I need to slide the black part (2) off the square shaft (1) (see img_3882) so I can get to the clip behind (2) but it won't budge.

Can anyone give me a tip?

Spray it w/a small amount of WD-40 then put it in the freezer for 30 mins. Try a double clawed puller...it will probably break.

Thx for quick reply.

Will try your suggestion. Wish I could find one of the later controls somewhere due to this thing being so large & bulky.
For now it's all I have.

So far nothing but complete units (not just control) - I'll keep looking

I may have to just get a compete unit & replace. The 'tight wad' in me keeps wanting to make it 'last a bit longer' :)
