1998 SW Series 200 Oil Delivery Problem

My system has stopped transfering oil to the engine from the oil tank. I removed the tank, pulled the filter. I can blow air "backwards" through the filter, but not "forward". I assume the filter is failed/clogged. So on the bench I wired the pump to a battery and tested without the filter in line. I swear the pump is running backwards. I triple checked the polarity agains the manual. Positive, blue, negative brown. Ever heard of a failure mode where the motor runs backwards? I also double checked I had the pickup and discharge correct. Im stumped....

What happens when you just flip the key to "ON" and hit the oil emergency toggle switch there under the hood ? You should see it pump oil to the primary tank under the hood. Sometimes the oil level sensor in the primary tank fails. I've never heard of a failure where the pump just starts pumping backwards.
