83 Johnson outboard......Doesnt idle or run well at low speed!

On our pontoon we have an 83' johnson that was running fine and then all of a sudden while trolling it started to sputter and and idle sketchy.....so my brother adjusted the idle pin and we got back to the dock and still was sputtered at an idle but like before ran just fine at full speed......any suggestions on what to check for in the motor?

Sure would help to know what model of your ---" Belchfire special " ---- post the model # / year / HP or a picture.
