Water pump for a E35ELCRR

How do I remove a lower gear assy. on a E35ELCRR? How do I get the shifter apart?, it seems to be holding the lower assy,....
 
You have to remove the black intake screens for the waterpump.--------Then undo the connection.---------Then slide the top nut up and remove the wee split plastic piece.
