I have a late 70's model johnson 70 outboard and upon start-up it will revv uncontrollably. I am completely new to boats and boat motors altogether and I'm not sure where to start. The motor was running fine, both in and out of the water, until one day I was warming it up at home and the bushing for the timing advance popped out while it was running. I didn't realize it until after it had run for 10-15 minutes. I put it back together and everthing seemed fine. Now, today, I started it up and after about 2 seconds it just revvs up like its going to explode. I have no idea where to start checking or what to start checking for. The boat hasn't been back out for a while, not even the day the linkage arm popped off. I'm thinking maybe the timing is off?
