"I have a '78 Chris Craft Catalina 351 and I want to replace my original Marine Power 350Qs with standard inboard engine, flywheel aft configuration. Since my engine compartment required low overhead clearance, can someone recommend engine/transmission packages that might work? Was thinking of a pair of 350 Crusaders with down angle reverse gears, but not sure if I can drop those in."

The above referenced thread was started about a 327Q series, but there are some very good links within the thread to long block exchange sites, Crusader replacements, etc. When you repower with someone elses motor (meaning a "non-Chris Craft" the you always have to deal with the motor mounts, shaft angle, clearances, etc., new transmissions, all new marine ancillary equipment, etc. With Crusader, you can buy an all new unit to drop in. I've seen some of those installations become VERY much of a headache because they are never as "convenient" as the owner thought it would be due to the amount of money he's spending. The link might give you another perspective, good luck, have fun!
