Hello dear boat-owners/users! I am doing research on use of PV (photovoltaic cells) in boats. Please contribute with your opinions on this subject. I created a questionnaire for you at http://www.questionpro.com/akira/TakeSurvey?id=459150. It takes approximately 7 minutes to complete the questionnaire.
The results from this survey will be published at http://sunergy.thrijswijk.nl/solarboat/. You can also find there a short overview on use of PVs on boat.

Thank you very very much in advance!"

Let's see....14km/hr top speed = 8.4 mph. Gee I dock faster than that. That would be OK if I were racing ducks. But even they fly when they get bored. The only solar power I want for my boat is a fusion reactor to replace my big block. Re-post when you have those for sale.

You might find customers in the Rag Boat area. I've seen a bunch of solar cells used to recharge batteries.

i could see this for light cab

i could see this for light cabin power or battery charge applications but the dollars spent on the solar equipment would buy a lot of generator fuel. Keep in mind that you are speaking with power boaters. It's an expensive hobby. We set fire to vast quantities of our planet's precious fossil fuels while spewing carcinogens into the atmosphere ;-)

"spewing carcinogens into the atmosphere" is enjoyable, I could imagine that. However I would doubt if fossil fuels is the cheapest way to power your boat. Initial investments for PVs are definitely higher, but operational expenses are low and no fuel to pay for. PV boat is interesting concept for customers who count their money over the life time of their boats."

"Olga,
Some quick math.
My 300+ hp boat would require an array at least 185 x 185 feet. (based on 100w /square meter a very good array in bright light). I would need a new dock and a new cover. It would behoove you to have your engineers check my math (I did it on the back of an envelope) before your company invests a ton of money in this project. I am figuring about $600,000 for my boat not counting a new longer ski tow rope."

"I am refering you to a link that give some information on PV boats.
http://sunergy.thrijswijk.nl/solarboat/. I have more links on examples of commercial boats that have PV-based propulsion systems ....but i cant place several links in one message ,as i realised now

I dont know what kind of boat you have. you could see from the link if performance of such boats sufficient for your requirements. maybe not"

I can see using one of the marine 100 kits mounted on a hardtop as a battery maintainer. thats about it.
