"hello,,,we were ready to sail away and our one cylinder has an exhaust valve keeps sticking and bending the push rod,,,I am thinking the valve is not seated right and fuel is getting into the exhaust port and mixing with the carbin and creating a black sticky gum,,,,any one have any ideas,,,,"

Hate to say this but sounds like your an overhaul away from being ready to go. Most likely your getting oil passed the rings or leaking throught the valve guide seals. This is getting oil into the area. Then its burning and causing the gum and bent valve. The engine should be gone over by a good mechanic . The head off you can check the rings by putting an oil film on the clyinder walls and watching the oil be removed or not when the engine is rotated. Of course it helps if you have been fixing engines for a long time. The head can be sent out for checking the valve guides, seals, proper grinding and fit. I would find the source of the oil and fix it, just doing a head job doesn't insure a fix."
