Lost compression on the top Cly. of my 1989 50 hp Force motor, took head gasket off and saw it was blown in between the Clys. what would cause this to happen, and do I need to check for anything special before putting new gasket back on ,any kind of sealant go on the gasket or do u use any when putting it back together. Thanks for any help on this.

No sealant.
Use a green scouring pad or a mild wire brush.
Don't go too strong.
Just make sure it's clean and smooth.
A hot spot can cause this.It gets hot and collects some dirt and it then cools and gets under an edge and eventually after heating up and cooling it blows.
Carbon builds up and burns a spot??J

I,m guessing the head bolts on this 1989 50 hp Force has to be torqued on the head when I put the head back on, anyone know for sure if they do and how much. Thanks

Make sure that the cylinder head is flat ! -Most aluminum castings warp with time and use.-Use a piece of glass to check it.-------If bolts are 5/16" then a torque of 180-inch lbs is used.
