Old Style Steering help needed

I have an old cable/pully typ

I have an old cable/pully type steering system and needed to replace the cable. When I put the new cable on the sterring is now backwards. Is there a diagram some where that I could be pointed to? Or is there an easy way to explain how to fix this?

"On the drum at the bottom of your steering wheel unit, cable should come off THE TOP OF THE DRUM going back to the motor for both sides. If both cables are run down the same side of the boat, the cable that will be attached to the "passenger" side of the boat to turn RIGHT, should come off the bottom of the drum.
