sacrificial anode

Probably wouldn't hurt. You are trying to protect your boat from your engine and vice versa. Even though the engine is clamped to the alum boat, the ground path may be something less than stellar. A 12 AWG wire from the battery to the boat and the anode would be best I'd think. Would help to reduce the eddy currents. Surely won't hurt anything, costs nothing, and is easy to do.
