I have a 1971 25hp Johnson that I am trying to bring back to life. I got sand in the cooling system and am trying to figure out how to get it all out. I pulled the water pump out and am replacing that. I also removed the head and there was a bunch of sand in the outside areas around the block (where the water goes). I sucked most of it out with a shop vac but need pointers on how to get it out from the block to the exhaust housing. Air? Or water?
It got really hot and is was concerned that I smoked the rings, but when I pulled the head off, the cylinders looked really good. I don't want to stick a bunch of money into it, but am enjoying working on it. It would also be nice to have a backup engine.
Any info would be appreciated! Thanks!
