1976 silverton ok i have been doing a lot of work now in the eng. comp. so the covers have been coming off much more then normal.i am starting to see a lot of flakeing from the inside of covers.getting all over the motors. i am thinking of wire brushing or sanding the insideof the covers so my ?is what would i paint or seal them with? thanks

Options depend upon what they are made of....I would suggest something that will tolerate the heat that builds up after engine shutdown. I'd think a very thin sheet of aluminum epoxied to the underside would be a good start.

I think you should try oil paint to seal it, I too had similar problem, but oil paints does good job for sealing. You can also use some Droppers & Caps (http://www.logpac.com/en/products-pharmaceutical.asp?subCatId=7) for the same.
