Change where Minn Kota is mounted.

Hi all, I have a 50lb Minn Kota transom mount on a 4mtr. f/glass runabout & only use it to keep the boat straight whilst drifting in a strong current which is where i fish.I would like to know if i could mount the electric on a secure bracket on the gunwhale of my boat about 1/3 of the boat length down from the bow where i sit to steer my outboard & is also where i sit to fish. The reason i would like to operate the electric from here is my knees are not in real good shape & this would save me from getting up & down all the time to go to the stern to correct my steering. All advice will be appreciated thank you...

in the old day of early trolling motors most of them were mounted on the side....but i dont think mounting one 1/3 the length of the boat back would work in a strong current...the closer to the bow the more control you will have....
