Water coming into engine compartment

2004 25HP Yamaha, Tiller handle, electric start.

Worked on my engine today getting the shifting problem straightened out. Got it so it shifts great now. I dropped the foot, Probably didnt have to, but while I was at it, I checked the impeller on my water pump. IT looked good so I put it all back together and hooked up the fake-a-lake. When I started the engine, water started pouring into the engine compartment. When I rev the engine the pressure of the water increases.

What did I miss when I put the foot back on? Motor is peeing water good, shifts good too. I just got to get this stopped now.

Heres a video I made. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0XmyksaKg9U

I took it to the lake yesterday and it was doing the same thing. The water is not coming from the exhaust cover. It is spraying up from below it. Kinda hard to tell from the video.

Are you talking about this gasket? http://screencast.com/t/Cuc2biv1

Is there water circulating around this manifold?

I was thinking that the problem might be something to do with the water pickup tube that goes into the top of the water pump. How does this tube connect up top?

You know... you might be right....I just watched the video again. It looks like it is coming from here. For some reason I had it in my head it was coming up from the water pump.

I will check it out tomorrow. Easy enough to pull off the cover and see if the gasket is blown. This cover has never been taken off before. Is it common for this gasket to go?

replaced gasket. The new one is metal. The original one was a fiber material. Instead of being blown out by the water pressure, the gasket had pulled into the cover cavity and caused the leak.

The new gasket fixed it.
