New Starter will not engage

HELP.....I replaced both batteries a couple of weeks ago due to slow starts and weak charges. Engine fired right up. Left for a week and starter spun but did not engage....Ordered new starter and installed. Same issue, spun , but did not engage. Any ideas or suggestions would be appreciated
 
Spinning and not engaging is a sign of weak batteries or bad connections causing a voltage drop. You will need to check the voltage to the starter motor when the key is turned.
 
My 90 horse johnson did same thing, put a new starter and still nothing. My ground wire was not getting good ground. Fixed ground and went to working like it should. So maybe check ground wire, with out ground wont work rite.
 
Thanks....that is exactly what it was. When I replaced the batteries, I overlooked the condition of the connections..A little wire brushing and BAM!!!
I'm back it the boating category!!!!!
