Want to get my own diagnostic program.

I have a 2001 yamaha F115 and I was wondering if it would be practical to get my own diagnostic program? I have a good laptop.:confused:
 
Some older models only had a light that could connect to the engine to see if you had any codes. Check your model out and see if you can hook up diagnostics or need the light to connect.
