New powerheads

I ve been looking for a motor around 250 hp. Why is it I see so many low hour motors with new powerheads. All manufacturers included. Are they all junk or do the owners beat the crap out of them. seems to me you should get more that 400-500 hours out of a 17k motor.
 
If you torcher it and do not maintain it correctly, use the cheapest fuel and oil, then that is about all the hours you will get out of it.
One more thing, it must be propped correctly.
