Engine identification help

I've taken out an omc v8 petrol engine from my boat as I;m repowering with a diesel
It has a 5.0l cobra outdrive and I was told that the engine was a 5.7l, however I need to know for definite if its 5.0 or 5.7 as I'm selling it and the drive etc and dont want to mislead anyone
I can see a serial number on the engine it says 212212, anyone got any ideas or a link to go to?
I've tried looking through old posts and google, but cant seem to find anything

Ayuh,.... Look on the aft block flange, above the flywheel,...

There'll be Casting numbers, 'n possibly it's displacement....
Findin' Chevy numbers is easier than finding OMC numbers...
 
Bill is correct.... use the GM numbers.

This will be pre-1987, for example.

This will be post 1986 for example. Note the 5.0L indicating a five liter displacement.
What anyone did from OEM is at best a guess .... unless you look further.

Thanks fellas, the engine is indeed a 5.0l (found it stamped on block where you both said) and found a casting no (14088551) which implies it is a 305 built between 1986 and 1988

You came up trumps again!
