25hp starting problem

Just bought brand new battery for my outboard ,my problem is starting motor engages (ie. spindle pops up) but will not turn flywheel ,i can turn flywheel by hand freely ,any ideas would be gratefully recieved..
 
Make sure there is no spilled gasoline near the motor.-Use a set of booster cables and go directly to the starter.--------------If it will not crank you may have a defective starter.-----------May be as simple as needing new brushes.
 
Iwould like to thank everyone for their input to this blog ,have to say ive solved the problem which was the starter solenoid ,the contacts on the starter solenoid were that bad had to strip full thing down and clean every contact then put back together ,have to say this was not a difficuld job if your diy friendly should be tackled i think ,anyways put all back together and managed to get my engine started whoohoo ,thanks again and keep up the good work ,cheers Dean
