serial # 6432748. was told it was 18hp '84 or '89. what's the real story about this merc?

this is my 1st used outboard from unknown origin. I have to say, I was so happy to find this site. I need to know the facts about this motor so i can get the manual and keep it alive for years to come.
 
Post a picture of the motor ( if cover is unmolested )-----------------Some sharp folks here can tell by the decals.------------Looks like it is 83 or 84 from the serial #
