not much you can do, 145hp @flywheel, its already turbo/aftercooled, but that is a good strong older motor and can push some weight. all the basics apply, make sure its propped right to reach WOT RPMs, use clean air filter with good supply of fresh air, clean aftercooler element, check all turbo air path hoses and connections and make sure its not leaking boost, good tuneup with fresh oil/filters, clean fuel, etc.

maybe even convert to thru-transom exhaust (if you are currently connected thru outdrive), that will free up few HP
 
I think the difference is in the aftercooler and heat exchanger. My serial number says I have the 40a, however, the parts breakdown matches the 40b in the aftercooler and heat exchanger. Also the injector pump can be turned up to provide more fuel.
