Help determine the year of outboard

I have a 40hp Mercury Mariner outboard and have'nt been able to learn year. It is a 2cyl, dual carbs, electric start, and long shaft. Color is silver and model # is 6E9 L 409019 and is a 40E. Please hlep so I can order some parts. Thanks

Depending on where i look, this engine shows up as either a 1982 or 1983 engine model.

But the model number shows it to be a 1982. Model Number 7040522, So I would go by this.;)
