15hp cuts out with cover on

Look for an exhaust leak , can't find one than inject a bit of oil into air intake.--------That would make it easier to find.
 
If this happens when running it in a barrel then that is " normal "---------------Run it on a boat and see if it still does the same !
 
It depends on how it cuts out. If it sputters a bit, then dies. You likely have an exhaust leak as Recerone suggested, which deprives the carbs of oxygen. However, if it cuts off immediately and completely, then look for a lose or bare electrical connection, or a loose sensor. Several years aho I was helping a frind diagnose a similar problem. Turned out that the kill switch wire had rubbed bare, and when the cover was put on the boat, it grounded out the control module.
 
thanks for your help. i took this engine on as a learning project. the exhaust is maybe the culprit,and the wiring has been a problem. noticed theres water leaking,into the engine, and comes out of the exhaust too, your thoughts please,think its a strip down!!
