Hello

Is there anyone who knows if Detroit Diesel 8,2T 250 hp, is reliable in marine application?
And is the sevice complicated?
Is the anything special to look for at inspection?

The thing is that I'm interested in a boat from 1986 with these engines. The owner say's they have only 600 hours.

I hav no experience of these engines, only Volvo Penta Diesels.

Just my opinion. I don't like them. They are difficult to work on and the ones I've been associated with seemed to have an inordinate amount of head gasket problems. I have no experience with the marine version but I worked on quite a few highway models. They were a widely used medium truck engine back in the day but there are none left to speak of still out there on the road so that should tell you something.
Just my opinion. I'm sure you can find others that loved them and, the marine version might have a better cooling system track record than the truck engines.

Ok, thank's
That's what I heard a little about also. And because I live in Sweden, I think it could be more difficult to get them served properly, than in US.

Thank's again.
