thrust direstion

If I'm understanding your question correctly, you want to know which side of the vertical shaft thrust bearing receives the most force?

If that's what you want to know, then my answer would be the upper side as the weight of the shaft tends to bear down on the thrust washer, bearing and bevel gear.

But, there will be linear force against it from the bottom as well, part of the time, as the prop and transmission are loaded and unloaded.
