Confused with serial codes !

New Boat owner and first post....!

looking to what the correct code id to download a manual from honda also, looking to supply a local Outboard service engineer with the correct information
below is the info taken from boat engine.

Honda 50hp 4 stroke carbed.
BF50 YEAR 1997 RATED POWER 36.8KW 88KG
SH598C-12
BA2E-1016245 Or the last digit might be a 8 instead of 5 on the end


can someone please tell me what is the correct code to use, or have i missed the corrct code from engine.

The serial number that you have looks like the engine serial number (from the block). You should use the serial number from the frame of the engine. Normally, it is found on the frame mount that attaches to the boat.

Also you probably have a typo in the serial number that you listed. It should probably be BAZE no BA2E. In any case the frame number will probably begin with BAZL or BAZU followed by digits.

The model number is BF50A. Generally, that should be enough to get the manual from Helm. It is one of the first series of Honda 50HP engines.
