Correct year for serial numbers

:)Hi everyone; I've 2 mercury 20hp engines (I believe they are both blue band engines but not 100% sure). The engine numbers are 2893122 and 9122768, I believe the years are 1970 and 1986 again not 100% sure. Could anyone please let me know the correct years for these engine so I can then press on with my next question being are the lower units compatible.

Hi Malchid, 9122768 comes in as 1976,Belguim build,2893122 comes in as 1970 and the lower units are interchangeable as long as the drive shaft is the same number of splines and the same length it should bolt right up.Many of the lower units would be interchangeable from the late '60's to the early '80's.Just a difference in gear ratio but a prop change would take care of the difference in the RPM's if need be. I put a 1984 75HP lower unit on my beautiful '69 Merc800 no problem.:D:D
