Rubber Clam Shell Mounts Question - How do they work?

Greetings,

I am trying to figure out how the rubber mounts that hold the spine of the outer clam shell go together. I did not take apart the engine so I do not know how they were originally assembled. The flat piece does fit into the large rubber piece but there is nothing to secure it. Any ideas?

Ah, according to all of the images I could find, those two pieces should not have been separated! They were glued together. When examining the old glue that was used, it does not appear that they used enough. It's just a small black blob covering less than a 1/4 of the surface area.

So now the question is, do I try to reglue them, or try to find replacements ..... I'll need 4 total if I try to replace :(

using the parts listing from MarineEngine.com I located the part of MOUNT 90435. $25 a piece....... wow that just seems a bit high for two bolts some rubber and glue. I guess I have no choice. I hate to do all of this engine work just to have the clam shell fall into the lake.
