Power and choke cables.

I have a 1974 MERC 500 and I am replacing it with 1986 merc classic fifty.The cables from the 1986 are not long enough to go on the boat that now has the 1974 MERC 500. The 1974 control box has a top mounted button for the choke,and the 1986 control box has the choke where the key goes in ( push in key to choke motor ). Can I use the power and choke cables from the 1974 MERC 500 on the 1986 merc classic fifty? It looks to me like the steering and throttle cables will work, can someone tell me if I can just plug the power cable right onto the 1986 classic fifty from the 1974 MERC 500 ?
