1989 omc cobra switching from a 2.3 to 3.0 sterndrive NEED HELP ASAP

I am being told it is possible but i am also hearing i might not get a plane out of it the 3.0 is the same year as my 2.3 but i have also heard i may need to change some exhaust thing and I just wanna know will i have to do a bunch of extra work to it to get to work or will it be like plug and play please i need to know asap ii have a chance to get one in the morning and need to know
 
changing power is never a plug and play,, forget that right now, dont forget we are talking about a 22 year old boat here . many things to consider . why not replace with a fresh 2.3?
