I had a short in my wiring harness. I thought it was the 10 pin connector plug on the engine side; so i cut the connector off. I later determined the short was on the boat side of the harness. I now want to reconnect the motor side 10 pin connector. If I use waterproof connectors with solder and adhesive shrink wrap, will that type of connection suffice. A new motor side harness is 400 dollars. Expensive mistake. A boat mechanic said if i do it that way I could damage the computer. Any help please.

I did what you are proposing on the power, choke and kill wires in my harness. They were breaking where the harness meets the motor cowling. They were breaking from lack of flex when you tilted the motor. My motor is a 2000-115 hp. I have run it over 1 year with no problems.

A good clean job shouldn't be a problem. If you were to totally unwrap that harness you would find that none of the internal connections are soldered.
