Remove Steering Bracket

I am rebuilding my 90ETLH and battling with the same problem. In order to remove the steering bracket I have to remove the shifting rod. It looks like I have to remove the crank case cover in order to remove the shifting rod. I don't usually need to buy a manual just to show me how to remove stuff but this one got me good. So I am waiting for the manual to get here.
 
To remove that swivel bracket, you first need to remove the powerhead, gearcase, shift shaft, and exhaust housing.
Thats on the 90hp anyway... Not sure what engine the first poster has...
