Shift handle wont pull out for throttle

Hi all I have a 1984 Galaxie with a 3.0 and omc sterndrive. I can get the shift handle to go foward and reverse and up to neutral. I even have throttle both ways, but I get no throttle while in netural. Is there a adjustment for this or does the cable need to be replaced

same one i have. the square plastic pieces slide out.

The center plastic piece you pry out.

Now you see where the whole shebang screws to the wood backing.

Remove the center screw.

Remove the nuts or the screws that hold it to the backing and now it can drop down.

Remove the cables take a picture before you remove them.

And put in on the bench and see where it's binding or whats bent to prevent it from moving when you pull on the handle

I think pb blaster might help before you remove it but only you will know after trying it.
