Shimming the exhaust housing

How thick are the shims for the exhaust housing? I need to know how many I need to buy. Also, what seals should I replace while I got the housing off? I got way too much play, and I think that's where I'm getting the water in my upper. Does that make sense?
 
I found a couple in my kit here- they are .012"
the most I have seen in a drive is about six, so I'm not sure if there are thicker ones, or you might have something else going on causing so much play there.
