Hello Experts,

I bought a used boat and the dealer told me it would have 30hp.
But on the motor is written Mariner 25.

He showed me the serial number and said it has 30hp, because of the 30EL

Here is the content of the serial plate (exactly the same)
Mariner 30EL
689 L 415798

Can someone help me finding the truth?

Thanks

If you look at the list below, you should notice that most of the 25 hp engines start off with 695 or 694, and so on, Then scroll on down to the 30 hp engines and you should notice that most of the 30 hp's start off with your number 689.;)

From the list below and according to Mercury marine your "serial number" shows this engine to be a,
30 A EL 689-413869 - 689-416198 = 1985. Model number, 7030526.

Thank you for the quick resonse.
The problem I see is that I have no A in the serial plate.
In the Mariner's list I found the type, pointed out to be a 1985 model produced from Yamaha.

But it says nothing about the horsepower.

Why would they call it Mariner 25 if it has 30hp?

You may find that someone has changed the cowl, for whatever reason, for a secondhand one from a 25hp. There seems to be little difference between engines from the same manufacturer that are close in output (ie 25, 30 - 55,60 - etc) My 55hp Mariner now has carburettors from a 60hp engine, what I had at the time. In my case everything else is identical between the two models. In your case it may be that the cowls are the same and if one gets damaged it can be replaced with one from a 25.

There could be other reasons for the discrepancies.
