1990 40eld Yamaha

I have 40 eld outboard. I have been through three new starter relays. Every time i put a new one in it sticks until it burns out. I have tried evrything i can think of. Any info would be greatly appreciated.
 
Thanks for the help that is exactly what it was, when my friend put the relay in he hooked the ground wire to the negative post on the relay. I unhooked it and bolted it the the grounding spot on the bar on the starter. Works fine now!!!!!!!!!!:):)
