I was told that the lower end off a Merc OB will fit a yamaha OB....

Q; is this true?


I need a lower end for a 1988 yamaha 30hp outboard,
Q: will a 40HP lower end fit a 30HP?
 
No on Merc lower unit swap.

A 40 will fit on a 30 I'm told but the gear ratio is taller and the prop is larger so you will have a hard time not overloading the 30. I may have a gearcase. Short or long?
 
Sorry if that sounded self serving. You can check out my info from some other sources. I'll see if I can find you a gearcase while you do that.
