I have a couple of (1996?) 9.9's for my catamaran in my garage. They'd been in storage for years before I boat the boat, and they needed a bit of work - new carb for one, starter motor rebuild for another, replace a few corroded wires. I had them running fine. That was 2-3 months ago.
I just tried running them again before refitting them to my boat. One is great. The other ran slowly and unevenly for less than a minute, then stopped. I've tried swapping carbs from the good engine to the other, and spark plugs, but I get the same behaviour. Often it won't run at all, sometimes it'll tick over slowly, then quit.
If it isn't the carb, and it does run a bit, what's going on? I've run out of ideas.
Any suggestions most welcome,
