Yamaha 40hp oil injected 2001- makes a churping noise when idling

hi i hope to be able to get some help on this issue, i have only recently brought the boat so i'm hoping i haven't brought a problem boat, but the problem is when i start the boat it and it's at idle it's makes a churping/sqeaking noise for bout half a second every couple of seconds, i've run fresh fuel because the fuel that was in the tank smelt stale, and replaced the spark plugs this still hasn't fixed the problem, playing with it today i noticed there is no air cleaner and wonders if it is running too lean? any help on this matter would be greatly appreachiated

thanks mate will give it ago might try cleaning them out first to see if maybe a bad bit of fuel has partially blocked them up, but if not will definitely get them rebuilt
