I have a 1928 Lake Union Dreamboat that was taken for picket duty in May of 1942. She went in the service with a gas engine, but came out with an oil engine. She has a 471 that looks much simpler than even the 1960's models and has a short serial number: 4A-76848 I am dying to know if this is a WW2 vintage engine. By the way, it runs beautifully: doesn't smoke and is as smooth as something of this age can be.
Can anyone date it for me?

Hi I worked on an LCM in alaska that had the original engines. Look at the top of the governor housing. There were 2 positions for the buffer spring, normal and "battle". The battle setting made around 300 more RPM. This might be an easy way to date your engine to WW2 era. OLY
