1991 115 hp Lower Unit Crack

Just noticed it the other day. Theres a crack running from the end of the housing, where the prop fits back toward the front where the gearcase is. Apparently not into the gear case though, there's no water in the lower unit fluid.

Thoughts?

Could be freeze damage if it was stored tilted up and water collected in there. ---------------Or if there is corrosion in the threads for the big retaining nut.----That can and has exerted enuff force to split " Off shore motor " lower units.

No corrosion to speak of. I figured freeze damage, although I'm surprised.

Could I JB Weld it back together, or should an aluminum welder be employeed here?
