5 HP will not shift into forward or reverse.

I have a ten year old 5 hp yamaha that when shifting will not go into forward or reverse. If I push or pull on the external shift rod it will go into gear.It will not go into gear from the shift lever. Any ideas or diagrams.

sounds like you need to adjust the shift shaft

When you pull the plug to adjust the rod, and move the shift lever the rod does not move.

5 HP will not shift into forward or reverse.
