Mariner Motor Age

Hi there

I am from SA and new to this forum - is there anyway to tell the age of a mariner motor made by yamaha - below are the numbers on the engine itself - its a 30hp electric start

30e
68901 [ this number is on the starboard side of the motor]
689 / 406028 [ this number is on the port side ]

Any help / comments would be much appreciated

It was fine here. That looks to be a 1981 Yamaha/Mariner (built for Merc) - originally an electric start (from factory), longshaft (20") version...
