TIP ( water in lower unit lube)

Since my 150 Mariner is almost 16 years old, and having spent quite a bit of time in a chemical plant, I am a firm believer in preventative maintence. I change the lube in my lower unit every 4 months. Last year about this time I noticed a small amount of water in the pan when I drained the lube. I made sure that I used new gaskets and replaced the lube. 4 months later the water was still there. After I refilled the lower unit, I pulled the prop and there was about 8 feet of mono on the shaft against the shaft seal. A week or so ago I did my normal change and this time NO WATER. You might want to pull your prop ever so often and check for grass and mono. (I do this ever month on my trolling motor.)
